JoanElaine Anderson, Ph.D - Executive Director  
janderson@empowertech.org 

Joining EmpowerTech in January 2009, Joan Anderson has an extensive background in fundraising, marketing and human resources in both the private and non-profit sectors. Previous experience includes teaching in Japan, working with the non-profit agency Angels' Flight West and recently as Executive Director of the American Heart Associations Ventura County Chapter. Joan holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Communications from Lynn University, and a Masters of Business Administration, also from Lynn University.

Joanne Orenski - Financial and Administrative Director

Joanne has been with EmpowerTech since 1991, after being introduced to the agency when her son with Down syndrome discovered the wonder of computers. Joanne has worked in nonprofit administration and financial management for over 20 years.

Tom Lange - Assistive Technology Specialist/Low Vision
tlange@empowertech.org

Tom joined EmpowerTech’s blind and low vision program in 2007 after over 10 years as a computer and assistive technology instructor. Tom brings to EmpowerTech many years of experience in mainframe applications programming and computer hardware and software installation. His current area of specialization at EmpowerTech is blind and low vision assistive technology and computer training.

Eric Larsen, M.Ed. - TRADE Director

Eric joined the staff in 1998 as an Assistive Technology Specialist and has served in a variety of roles since that time. Currently Eric is the Director of TRADE at EmpowerTech (Technology Related Accommodation, Development and Employability). In addition to overseeing all aspects of the TRADE Program, Eric develops curriculum and works with students with disabilities to learn computer and other office skills with the goal of employment.

Anthony Talbert - IT Director

Anthony has been serving the networking needs of EmpowerTech for over three years. He has ten years of experience in the computer support and networking fields and brings a wealth of diverse skills to meet the technical needs of the center.

Judy Nahman-Stouffer - Assistive Technology Educational Specialist

Judy has been with EmpowerTech since 2005. Her background and primary focus at EmpowerTech has been on working with special needs children in pre-school through high school. In addition, she currently provides instruction to older adults on learning assistive technology and provides community education. Judy holds a California Clear Teaching Credential with Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD®) Certification.

Ally Walker - Development Director

Ally Walker has worked in fundraising, marketing and development for the last seven years. She has specialized in building long term community partnerships and creating marketing opportunities in the areas of sports, education, research and advocacy efforts. Most recently Ally lead a statewide fundraising effort for the American Heart Association, resulting in more than $3 million dollars in revenue and involvement of more than 6,000 active volunteers. She received her B.A from the University of South Carolina.

Melody Ram, M.A. - Assistive Technology Educational Specialist

Melody has been working in the field of assistive technology and curriculum development for over 15 years. At EmpowerTech, she provides instructional strategies through the use of technology, focusing on children from pre-school through high school. Her areas of specialty include technology evaluations and information and training for students and family members. Melody has a Masters Degree and a credential in Special Education.

Chris Kraiss - Assistive Technology Specialist
ckraiss@empowertech.org

Chris Kraiss has worked in many areas of technology - from helpdesk positions to telecommunications to owning his own company back in Wisconsin that sold and trained on computer technology for people with disabilities. He enjoys seeing the amazing advancements in technology have very practical application in improving the quality of life for many people.
