EmpowerTech, a nonprofit in Westchester that serves people with disabilities has a part-time job opportunity:


Position: Assistive Technology Educational Specialist

Reports to Executive Director

General Responsibilities:

Provide Assistive Technology (AT) consultation and assessment services to school age population including in-depth reporting, classroom implementation and training on specific devices as needed

Provide AT services to various referring organizations including adult and senior populations

Provide weekly instruction in designated pre-school classrooms to teach children to learn basic computer skills

Meet with classroom staff, student, parent and other support staff

Classroom implementation and training on AT, including curriculum modification

Write in-depth reports for referring agencies and individual entities

Maintain service records on ET database

Job Qualifications:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of Assistive Technology and Adaptive Devices and/or

ability to learn required knowledge and skills

Experience in working with various populations, ability to break down

tasks into smaller increments for learning

Strong organizational, management and research skills

Ability to develop good working relationships with a wide range of professionals, community service agents and families

Reliable transportation for local travel required


Must have one of these credentials to work with public schools conducting assessments and attending IEP’s:


A. License in Physical Therapy issued by Dept. of Consumer Affairs - or

B. Certificate of registration as an Occupational Therapist - or

C. License in Speech – Language Pathology issued by Dept. of Consumer Affairs - or

D. Baccalaureate degree in engineering with emphasis in assistive technology - or

E. Baccalaureate degree in a related field of engineering w a graduate cert. in rehab or assistive technology - or

F. Certification from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America & Assistive Technology Provider - or

G. Certificate in assistive technology applications issued by an accredited post secondary institution - or

H. Credential that authorizes special education of physically handicapped, orthopedically handicapped, or severely handicapped pupils.

 

Salary Range: Based on experience Benefit pkg available.
